Letter to Parents & Carers - 22 May 20

Dear Parents and Carers

You will be aware that the Government announced on 10th May that, from the week commencing 1st June at the earliest, schools and college should be prepared to re-open to certain year groups. However, a final decision on this limited return will not be made by the Government until the next meeting of the Scientific Advisory Group For Emergencies (SAGE) has taken place on Thursday 28th May. Consequently, although we are currently preparing to meet the Government's request, we do not consider it feasible to open for students on Monday, 1st June. In the meantime, the home learning arrangements for all learners will continue as at present.

Although our sites are not currently open to students, I can assure you that we are still very much 'open for business'. Our staff continue to support all learners in their online learning as well as making regular welfare checks to their students to give them pastoral and emotional support through their remote studies. Additionally, our teachers have been working through the mammoth task of undertaking assessments where qualifications this year require a calculated grade i.e. an exam, practical assessment or written assignment that is no longer taking place during the lockdown, which would have occurred in previous years.

I want to assure you that before the College is re-opened we will ensure that all appropriate risk assessments are in place and that the necessary alterations have been made to the estate. These measures will include limiting student numbers to a level which is safe and appropriate for our site(s). In addition, before the College is re-opened, we will provide all staff with an induction into the new ways of working.

We will therefore be in touch with you shortly with more details as to how this will be organised and, most importantly, the measures we have put in place to minimise the risks for students and staff.

In the meantime, can I thank you for your cooperation and, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable half-term break.

Kind regards

Alan Pease

Deputy Principal
