GCSE Exams 2023

News overview

Welcome to our update about the 2023 GCSE exams at Suffolk New College! Here you will find some frequently asked questions about the upcoming exams.

When are the GCSE Exams?

  • 19th May – Maths (Non-Calc)
  • 5th June – English (Paper 1)
  • 7th June – Maths (Calc)
  • 12th June – English (Paper 2)
  • 14th June – Maths (Calc)

What are GCSE Exams?

These are national exams which take place in the morning. This means that every learner studying a GCSE in the UK will sit their exam at the same time. The dates/times of these are set by the exam board and cannot be changed.

How are the exams graded?

The exams are graded using a numerical system ranging from grade 9 to 1. A standard pass (previously a grade C) is now a grade 4. A strong pass is a grade 5. The ‘U’ grade (meaning ‘ungraded’) remains the same.

When will learners receive their results?

The GCSE exams will be marked by the exam board and the results of these will be released on Thursday 24th August 2023. When learners receive their results, they can also enrol on to their study programme starting in September.

How can I support my learner?

In the final run-up to the exams, motivation and attendance to timetabled lessons is vital. Additional revision sessions are available during college hours and half-term, both face to face and online. Past papers are available on the AQA website, course content on Google Classroom and revision guides from the Learning Curve.
