Course overview

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Floristry

Take your floristry skills to the next stage with the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Floristry, a creative, technique focused course designed for learners who want to deepen their understanding of professional floral design. This one day a week programme blends hands on practical work with essential design theory, giving you the confidence and competence to produce high quality wedding and funeral arrangements.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore the specialist techniques used in professional floristry, including foam based construction, advanced wiring methods, and the planning processes behind bespoke designs. Each week, you will create at least one new arrangement, working with fresh flowers supplied by the college so you can practise with high‑quality materials.

You’ll study three core modules:

  • 201  Introduction to Art and Design for Florists – Develop your understanding of colour, form, texture, and composition, and learn how to apply design principles to your own floral work.
  • 205 Plan, Prepare and Construct Funeral Designs – Gain the skills to create sensitive, meaningful funeral tributes using foam, wiring, and secure construction techniques.
  • 207 Plan, Prepare and Construct Wedding Designs – Learn how to design and build elegant wedding pieces, from wired buttonholes to bouquets and decorative arrangements.

Assessment is continuous and includes both practical creations and supporting written work, you’ll build two portfolios:

  • One showcasing your weekly floral designs
  • One demonstrating your knowledge of art and design principles for floristry
