December Update

As we approach the end of the calendar year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your efforts over the duration of this term. It is fair to say that these are unprecedented times, but the response of the entire College community has been exceptional. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been largely mitigated by the excellent practice delivered by everyone, which has meant we have been able to maintain our operational capabilities through a combination of face-to-face and online learning.

It is also a good and timely opportunity to outline plans for the next few weeks:

Week commencing 14th December 2020

  • Monday 14th – Thursday 17th December – learners remain in learning for the last four days of term:

Vocational lessons are to be maintained in accordance with existing plans, which is a combination of face-to-face and online learning, as has been delivered all term.

English and maths delivery will be online. Teachers will support learners to engage with the learning activities through online platforms. Exceptions will remain for those areas that have continued face-to-face delivery, which includes Supported Learning, ESOL and Work-Based Learning, who will continue with their existing approaches.

PD sessions and Progress Tutor 1-1s will continue as per timetable.

  • Friday 18th December - Students are not required to attend College or engage in online learning on this day

COVID contact over the Festive Break

  • It is important for the College to be aware of anyone displaying symptoms early on in the Christmas break. As such, the College will remain operational on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd December, which will cover a five-day period immediately after students were last on-site (Thursday 17th December).
  • This is critical in case there are actions to be taken with regards to asking other people to isolate or to arrange for a test. We are also keen to know if you or a family member test positive during this period. Therefore, if you do move into isolation as a result of symptoms, or take a test over the period, please contact the College through the usual channels.
  • The same protocols remain in place about not coming into College after the break if you or someone you live with has symptoms, a positive result and/or is being tested. The arrangements with regards to the wearing of masks, use of hand gel and protocols for moving around the site will all remain in place from January onwards.
  • Please make sure you are not displaying any COVID symptoms before returning to College. If you or anyone in your household test positive during the break you must email COVIDchristmas@suffolk.ac.uk as soon as possible with your name and student number, a member of staff will then get in touch to confirm your return date.
This email account will only be monitored during the Christmas period. Please continue to report absences as normal during term time.
