Course overview

This is a T Level in Education and Childcare

T Levels are a new qualification designed to combine the best elements of academic and vocational learning. The T Level in Education and Childcare is a two-year programme designed to support you in becoming a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner at level 3 with the option to go straight into work or to move into higher education. One T Level is equivalent to 3 A levels but with a specific focus on the industry that you are interested in.

In the first year of your course, you will cover core components that develop your knowledge and understanding of the elements that underpin working in a childcare or education setting with children and young people aged 0-19 years. These include how children develop physically, socially, and emotionally, as well as providing an overview of the current education system for children. You will also gain an understanding of the importance of safeguarding, health and safety, as well as supporting those with special educational needs and disabilities.

You will then build on these to focus in the second year on your occupational specialism with children 0-5 years and developing the skills needed to become an exceptional Early Years Practitioner.

Throughout the course, you will spend 2 ½ days a week in college and 2 days a week in an industry placement to enable you to develop the knowledge and skills you will need for your future career. Assessments will be undertaken in a range of formats and have been developed with input from employers to ensure they are relevant to the industry you have chosen.
