What you will learn
This 2-unit Qualification consists of 1 mandatory unit and 1 of 2 optional units. The mandatory unit covers subjects such as legislation and regulation relating to home-based childcare, safeguarding and child protection, health and safety in a home-based childcare environment, working in partnership, children’s learning and development and the role of observation. One optional unit is for those wishing to set up a home-based childcare business and covers subjects such as leading and managing a home-based childcare setting, financial and taxation requirements when setting up a home-based childcare setting, creating a business plan and registration requirements for home-based childcarers. The other optional unit explores the role and responsibilities of the Nanny and covers topics such as partnership working, expectations required of the role, the role of advisory, guidance and support services and how to plan steps to become a Nanny. Candidates will be required to complete a collection of written assessments to demonstrate their learning and achieve the qualification.

After successful completion of the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home-Based Childcare, we recommend progressing onto one of our part-time childcare courses at Level 3, Level 4 or Level 5.
