Music Performance and Production

At Suffolk New College, our Music Performance & Production programmes are built for the real world.

You’ll rehearse, record and produce in professional studio spaces using industry-standard equipment.

You’ll perform live at real venues, collaborate with working artists and gain the skills to thrive in a fast-moving music industry.

Build your career in
Music

Suffolk New College offers both music performance and music technology courses in levels 2 and 3. Depending on your chosen pathway, you will be coached in the development of your instrumental and vocal performance skills; or be trained on how to use the latest music technology to create, edit and record your own music.

During their time at the college our music students will receive regular opportunities to showcase their musical skills by way of live performances, recordings, and other cross-college projects. There will also be opportunities for students to collaborate with the media department in order to create music videos and obtain video recordings of live shows.

Facilities

Recording Studios

SNC currently hosts two dedicated recording studios. Studio One, our flagship studio, is based in our Creative Arts Area, and features four live rooms, all connected to our industry standard control room, featuring our Audient ASP 4816 console and a raft of outboard processing systems. We have the capacity to record either digitally, into Logic Pro or ProTools, or onto analogue tape for the old school producers.

Our main live room G48 is also our main rehearsal space, ideal for bigger bands. Featuring a built in PA system for easy set up, a full DW drum kit, Nord Stage 2 keyboard and a selection of valve or solid-state amps from Fender, Blackstar, Vox and many others.

Studio 2, on the other side of Ipswich Campus, is more compact, but perfect for smaller sessions, with full acoustic treatment and a suite of advanced control systems.

For sound capture we have a huge selection of microphones, from the standard AKG 414s and SM57s to more specialist mics such as Neumann KM184s, Shure SM7Bs, and SE2300s.
