City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry

Step into the world of professional floristry with the City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry, a full time, industry focused programme designed for learners who want to begin a creative and rewarding career in the floral industry.
This hands on qualification gives you the essential technical skills, design knowledge and workplace understanding needed to progress into employment, an apprenticeship, or further study at Level 3. You’ll work with fresh flowers every week, giving you the chance to practise with high quality materials while developing confidence and creativity.

Throughout the year, you’ll explore a wide range of floristry techniques, from traditional wired work to contemporary design styles, and you’ll learn how to plan, construct and present professional standard floral pieces for a variety of occasions. You will study the full suite of Level 2 Technical units, including:

• 202 – Identify, Check and Monitor the Quality of Incoming Cut Materials – Understand how to recognise, assess and handle fresh flowers and foliage to maintain quality and maximise vase life.
• 203 – Identify and Maintain the Condition of Plants and Planted Designs – Learn how to care for plants, create planted arrangements and maintain healthy stock in a retail environment.
• 204 – Plan, Prepare and Construct Tied Floristry Designs – Develop your skills in creating hand tied bouquets and other tied designs, focusing on structure, balance and commercial presentation.
• 206 – Plan, Prepare and Construct Floral Arrangements – Explore foam based and container arrangements, learning how to plan, cost and construct designs suitable for retail, events and bespoke commissions.
• 208 – Display of Floristry Goods – Gain experience in visual merchandising, including layout, colour harmony, product rotation and creating attractive retail displays.
• 209 – Introduction to Working in the Floristry Industry – Build your understanding of customer service, teamwork, career pathways and the expectations of working florists.
• 210 – Introduction to Function Decorating Using Floral Displays – Learn how to plan and install floral décor for weddings, events and celebrations, including table centres and venue dressing.

As part of your study programme, you’ll also take part in enrichment activities, employer engagement, work experience and wider personal development to prepare you for the world of work. Assessment includes practical assignments, written tasks and an externally set synoptic assessment that brings together everything you’ve learned.

Assessment methods

• Two multiple choice exams that are externally set and marked.
• A Synoptic assessment, which will involve theory and practical based tasks completed under assessment conditions at college.
• One Health & Safety multiple choice exam.
• The completion of 150 work experience hours with a local employer.
