Course Overview

The Extended Diploma is designed to give you with the skills, knowledge and understanding of a wide range of occupational roles undertaken in the Public Services (uniformed) e.g. Police, Military, Fire Service, Health Service and HM Customs. The study programme consists of a combination of classroom based taught lessons, visiting speakers from Public Services and practical and physical activities. Units include Communication, Planning and Responding to Emergencies, Understanding Discipline, Instructing Physical Activity and the Impact of Media on Public Services. Students will undertake a residential as part of the Outdoor and Adventurous activities unit and will also complete at least 30 hours of voluntary work to complete a Volunteering unit.
The qualification prepares you for employment in the Public Services, develops team skills, leadership skills and a wide range of employability skills relevant for a broad range of sectors in the world of work.
The vocational context of the qualification allows for assessment, written and practical assignments, to be directly linked to realistic work-based scenarios and to form links with local Public Service providers.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a suitable 90 Credit Diploma in Public Services and GCSE English Language at C or above.

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2016
