Course overview

Develop your drawing skills and gain confidence in capturing the human form in this welcoming 10-week course.

Beginning with portrait drawing and progressing to full figure studies, you’ll learn how to observe more accurately, understand proportion, use tone and shadow effectively, and create expressive, confident drawings. Through a combination of tutor demonstrations, guided exercises and practical drawing sessions, you’ll explore techniques used by artists to represent the head and figure.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some previous drawing experience, the course offers a supportive environment where you can develop at your own pace while building core observational and creative skills.

Throughout the course you will explore:

  • Portrait drawing and facial proportions
    • Measuring and observing accurately
    • Line, tone and mark-making techniques
    • Gesture drawing and movement
    • Figure proportion and structure
    • Light, shadow and modelling form
    • Short studies and longer sustained drawings

Basic materials such as graphite pencils, charcoal and paper are all that is required.

Whether you’re returning to drawing after a break or looking to develop your artistic practice, this course offers an enjoyable and structured introduction to drawing the human form.

Enrolment End Date: Please note that the enrolment for this course closes 3 working days before the start of the course. Unfortunately, it is not possible to process late enrolments after that point.
