Learn to sew with confidence – no previous experience needed
Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to sewing after many years, this 10-week course will help you develop practical sewing skills in a friendly, supportive environment.
You’ll work with a sewing machine throughout the course and create real, useful projects in every session, building your skills as you progress.
You will be able to:
- Set up, thread and use a sewing machine independently
- Sew straight seams, curves and corners with greater accuracy
- Read a commercial paper pattern and cut fabric correctly
- Insert a zip neatly and avoid puckering
- Construct a fully lined bag with handles
- Make a simple elasticated garment, such as shorts or a gathered skirt
- Assess fit on your own body and make a basic alteration
Entry Requirements
- No previous sewing experience is required
- Sewing machines are available at the venue, although you are welcome to bring your own
- Please bring small scissors, pins and a seam ripper – a basic equipment list will be provided when you book
- No pattern-reading experience is needed, as this will be taught as part of the course
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed practical sewing skills, increased confidence and a selection of useful handmade projects to take home.
