Full Paediatric First Aid

Course overview

This two-day course is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the needs of Ofsted delivered by a paediatric specialist and includes both theory and practical sessions.

The course takes place between 08:30 and 16:00, and places are limited.

Course Cost £150

This course is suitable for people aged 19 and over who need to be qualified in first aid as they care for babies and children in a professional setting, including:

  • au pairs
  • nannies
  • childminders
  • nursery and preschool workers
  • sport and leisure staff
  • crèche leaders.

This course covers how to help a baby or child who:

  • is unresponsive and breathing
  • is unresponsive and not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • is choking
  • is bleeding
  • is burnt or has a scald
  • has an object in their eye, ear or nose
  • has hypothermia or heat exhaustion
  • has sickness or a fever

This course also covers what to do if someone is having a medical emergency, including:

  • meningitis
  • diabetic emergency
  • seizures
  • asthma attack
  • severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock)
  • injury to a bone muscle or joint (including spinal injuries)
  • head injury
  • swallowed something harmful

This course includes basic adult first aid skills on accident reporting and administering medication for those working in a childcare setting.

Delivered in a classroom setting, this course offers a practical, hands-on approach that delivers the skills and confidence to use first aid skills in a real-life situation.

For added reassurance, each learner is assessed throughout the course using a range of practical demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, quizzes and engaging activities, such as role-play, designed to coach and support them as they develop.

Those delegates who complete the course will be deemed to have reached the required standard and will be awarded an Aid Training certificate valid for three years, after which time you will need to renew your certification.
