Hands-on training means you’ll work on real engines, vehicles and a variety of mechanical parts. Our workshops feature industry-standard equipment and kit designed to reflect a working garage, so when you land your first job as an automotive technician or mechanic, you will be ready!

Our range of automotive study programmes are designed to prepare you for work in many areas of the automotive industry.

As well as being actively encouraged to apply theory to practice, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in our fully equipped modern workshops, supported by qualified and experienced tutors throughout your development.

Suffolk new also has many trade contacts, which can lead to work experience or employment opportunities.

Specialisms include: Light Vehicle Inspection, Maintenance and Repair and Vehicle Accident Repair (Paint).

Recent Developments in Electric Vehicles and the College's Commitment to Innovation

The rapid advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technology are transforming the automotive industry. In response, our College is investing in new electric vehicles and advanced maintenance and diagnostic equipment as part of our Net Zero Skills Centre.

Our automotive study programmes now include hands-on experience with the latest EV technologies, supported by our state-of-the-art workshops and expert tutors.

Working with our industry partners we make sure the curriculum and the workshops we have support our students for the future of the automotive industry.

Vehicle Accident Repair

  • Gain experience using the latest equipment in body repair and refinishing in our amazing workshop.
  • Work in small groups doing real repairs on real vehicles.
  • Study a range of techniques used in repair of vehicles damaged in accidents – body repairs; panel replacements; preparation and application of paints & finishes; welding and bonding.
  • Learn about the new developments in the motor industry, such as the use of sensor technologies and their important role in body repair.
