Course overview

This course is part of the Ipswich Town Foundation Education Programme

This qualification will suit students aged 16+ and pursuing a career in working within the Sports industry. It would suit learners who are looking to develop skills and knowledge for facilitating and leading fitness, sport/leisure and exercise activities/programmes. For example Fitness Coaching and Personal Trainer roles.

This qualification is also intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to the sport, fitness and active leisure sector, equipping learners with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills as well as bitesize English and maths units. They are designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in sport, fitness and active leisure or other related sectors.

The course consists of 8 units:

  • Recognising Sport and Leisure opportunities
  • Working in Sport and Leisure
  • Effects of exercise on the body
  • Taking part in exercise and fitness
  • Exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle
  • Risks and Hazards in Sports and Leisure
  • Assisting a leader of a Sports or Active Leisure activity to plan and deliver an activity 
  • Planning own Fitness Programme 

Alongside this course you will be required to study Maths, English and Personal Development (PD) as part of your study programme.

How you will be assessed

You will use a range of assessment methods to complete your knowledge and understanding, for example: Group work, posters, presentations, leaflets, workbooks, trips, fitness testing, practical sport and leisure activity leading, creating exercise programmes and reflection. 

Core skills covered

Learning, professionalism, adaptability, listening and interpersonal skills, leadership, teamwork and communication skills development.

Employer Engagement

The qualification is designed with industry job roles and duties in mind. We have guest speakers and employer/partner collaboration to enrich the learner experience as part of your course programme.

Progression

This qualification will support progression onto L2 Sport, apprenticeships, careers and work experience.
