The Level 1 Performing Engineering Operations programme introduces you to the essential practical skills, safety standards and technical knowledge needed to begin your journey in engineering. It’s the ideal starting point for learners aiming to progress into Level 2 study or move towards entry‑level roles within the industry.
What you will learn
- Health & Safety — Safe workshop practices, correct use of PPE, hazard awareness and completing basic risk assessments.
- Engineering Drawings — How to read and interpret 2D technical drawings, recognise standard symbols and produce simple isometric or orthographic sketches.
- Materials Knowledge — Identifying common metals, plastics and composites, and understanding their core physical properties.
- Machining & Electronics — Operating manual workshop machinery such as bench drills and lathes, alongside wiring and testing basic electrical circuits.
- Applied Maths & Science — Working with measurements, calculating dimensions and angles, and applying introductory principles of force and electricity.
