Course overview

The Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations programme is an industry‑recognised, practical qualification designed to develop your competence and confidence across core engineering disciplines. Building on Level 1 skills, this course prepares you for real workplace expectations through hands‑on training, technical understanding and safe working practices.

What you will learn

  • Working Safely in Engineering — Apply key legislation including HASWA, COSHH and PUWER, complete risk assessments, maintain safe working environments and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Carrying Out Activities Efficiently — Plan tasks, select and prepare tools and materials, manage time effectively and work in a structured, systematic way.
  • Using Technical Information — Interpret detailed engineering drawings, job cards, circuit diagrams, material specifications and tolerance standards.
  • Electrical & Electronics — Wire panels, assemble circuits, test components using multimeters and carry out fault‑finding on basic control systems.

Assessment

Assessment is primarily practical. You will produce real engineering components in the workshop and build a portfolio of evidence, supported by short written or oral knowledge tests.

Progression

This qualification prepares you for:

  • Advanced (Level 3) Engineering Apprenticeships
  • Employment as a junior technician or operator
  • Progression to a Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering
  • Progression to the Design, Surveying and Planning T Level
