Course overview

We offer pottery and ceramics classes suitable for all skill levels in our workshop, which has recently undergone a makeover. During this 10-week course you will cover a range of techniques,

Whether you are a novice or an expert, this course can be tailored to your needs.

Please note: this course is run on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, please enrol on the day you wish to attend each week.

The college will only supply primary colour underglaze and transparent over glaze. You are welcome to bring your own glazes and we can suggest suppliers to purchase these from.
Clay will be charged at £2 per lb. The fee must be paid if you wish to take your items home with you.
Only items that are made in the sessions can be fired in the kiln.
The space is equipped with two large kilns, a spray booth, slab-roller and four electric wheels- providing everything you need to develop your creativity with clay.

The course can include:

  • Pinching
  • Making tiles
  • Slab- building
  • Coiling
  • Slip-casting
  • Basic-Throwing
  • Surface decoration
  • Making and using paper- clay
  • Making pendants and beads
  • Experimenting with a range of glazes and underglazes.

You will need to bring:

  • A toolbox containing some basic tools for beginners which will be discussed in your first session
  • 13 Pcs Pottery tools from AMAZON (to include wooden pottery tools for modelling clay, metal and rubber kidney, cheese wire and sponges)
  • Sketchbook and pencils
  • You will need to wear old clothes, an apron and sensible closed toe shoes
  • Materials will be discussed in detail during the first week

Timings: 5:30 – 8:30pm

Enrolment End Date:  Please note that the enrolment for this course closes 3 working days before the start of the course. Unfortunately, it is not possible to process late enrolments after that point. Refreshments are available from the vending machines on the campus which include both hot and cold drinks.
