Course overview

This is a one academic year programme, starting in September. Attendance to all aspects of the study programme is required, typically 3-4 days per week on-campus plus an additional day in work placement.

This course is a technical qualification from City and Guilds which has been designed by employers to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant skills which combine both theory and practical aspects of horse care.

You will follow a study programme of theory and practical aspects, including Health and well-being, Husbandry and Handling, Nutrition and Feeding, Horse Behaviours, and Welfare.

To achieve this Level 3 you will be required to complete a total of two external assessments in Year 1.
You will also be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments.

As part of your Study programme, you must also complete 150 hours of work experience alongside attendance at college, to achieve this qualification. Typical placements may include Livery yards, Studs and competition yards.

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to a second year to achieve an Advanced Technical Extended Diploma.
