Course overview

This foundation programme gives you a solid introduction to the core skills, tools and techniques used in the carpentry and joinery trade. It’s designed for learners who are starting out in construction and want to build confidence, practical ability and an understanding of how the industry works.

You’ll explore both theory and hands‑on practical work, developing essential skills through specialist units that cover measuring, marking out, cutting, assembling and working safely with a range of materials. Alongside this, you’ll gain a strong grounding in Health and Safety, industry expectations and the behaviours needed to succeed on site or in a workshop.

All practical training takes place in our fully‑equipped construction workshops, led by experienced, highly qualified staff who support you as you build your technique and accuracy. You’ll complete a mix of practical assessments and written tasks, and you must pass all elements to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.
