Course Description: Course information
The Level 4 Certificate in Arboriculture, awarded by Skills and Education Group Awards, is designed for individuals that are currently working in the arboricultural industry and are looking to up skill and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
This qualification will provide you with the theoretical foundation needed for career progression, for example, consultancy work, or further study in arboriculture or related land-based sectors.
Course structure
Attendance is part-time, one day per week.
The qualification consists of four mandatory units and at least one other optional unit. Mandatory units include:
• Woody vegetation formation and physiology
• Tree bio-mechanics and maintenance
• Pest, disease and disorder identification
• Principles of tree management
Learners must complete all mandatory units and the optional unit(s) to meet the qualification requirements.
Assessment methods
Learners will complete and submit coursework across the academic year, which will be made up of reports, research tasks, and scenario-based written work.
There are no external exams. All units are internally assessed with a pass/fail grading system.
All coursework is subject to an external moderation process.
Progression opportunities
The successful completion of the Level 4 Certificate can result in a range of progression opportunities, including:
• Additional study – Level 4 Diploma, Level 5
• Career development – A Level 4 qualification will allow progression into a wider range of job roles, including arboricultural officer, tree inspector, and consultant.
