Course Overview

This foundation programme of study has been designed to give you a general introduction to the basic skills needed to progress into a career within the construction industry as a bricklayer. You will study both the theory and practical aspects of the subject through completion of specialist units. You also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the health and safety, and other skills associated with working in the industry. Practical activities are completed in fully resourced workshops led by highly competent and qualified staff. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at grade E (grade 2) including English Language/ Entry Level functional skills English, pass a skill based test where appropriate, meeting and suitable reference

Course Highlights

This is a study programme where you will learn the basic practical aspects of Bricklaying in our workshops, with the opportunity to progress onto higher levels of study.

You can test your skills against others at exhibitions and competitions, such as the Suffolk Show, while also having the chance to gain a greater understanding of working life by getting involved with a selection of community projects. The course will also develop your personal, social and employability skills.You will learn about the trade and find out what you need to get a job by attending different exhibitions and attending a range of talks by local and national employers.

Next Steps

On successful completion of this qualification, students can progress onto Level 2 Bricklaying or may progress onto an apprenticeship programme.

Tuition Costs

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2018.
