BRICKLAYERS OF TOMORROW BENEFIT FROM SUFFOLK HOUSEBUILDER’S DONATION

News overview

A housebuilder has made a donation of bricks to Suffolk Rural College in support of its construction courses, helping to train the next generation of house builders.

The college has received 36,000 bricks from David Wilson Homes’ Henley Gate development in Ipswich, that will be used in a bricklaying demonstration at the Suffolk Show, taking place on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th May at Trinity Park in Ipswich.

Lecturers with brick donation

Suffolk Rural College offers bricklaying courses at both Level 1 and Level 2, with each level taking one year to complete. Students learn the importance of safe working practices while gaining a solid understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of bricklaying.

Throughout their studies, students are encouraged to showcase their skills at various regional and national competitions. They are also invited to demonstrate their talents during the college’s annual appearance at the Suffolk Show.

Gavin Loose, Construction Lecturer at Suffolk Rural College, said: “We are very grateful to Barratt Homes for its incredible donation of around 36,000 bricks. This will enable our students to continue to hone their talents within our outstanding construction centre.  “It’s great that Barratt Homes sees the value in supporting the next generation of construction superstars and we look forward to working with the housebuilder in the future to support the development of our talented learners.”

Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “It is extremely important that we encourage and assist the next generation of house builders and construction workers in any way we can.

“We hope that by donating these bricks to Suffolk Rural College, the pupils will be able to showcase their abilities and the skills they have learnt over the year at Suffolk County Show, and one day we may be able to welcome some of the college alumni into our site teams.”
