Corporation are responsible for:

  • The determination and periodic review of the educational character and mission of the institution and for the oversight of its activities
  • Approving the quality strategy of the institution
  • The effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the institution and the Corporation and safeguarding their assets
  • Approving annual estimates of income and expenditure
  • The appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal and determination of pay of senior post holders, including the Head of Governance
  • Setting a framework for the pay and conditions of service of all other staff

The Governing Body is a group of professionals from different industries that possess a wide range of skills and expertise. There are external/independent governors as well as staff and student governors on the Corporation. Governors have strong links with the college’s senior management but are not involved in the day to day operation of the college.

The Corporation meets throughout the year to undertake its responsibilities and to ensure the strategic aims of the college are met. To enable the Corporation to carry out its responsibilities and duties more effectively committees have been established. The committees enable governors to use their skills and knowledge to review, monitor and evaluate issues in depth. Each committee has Terms of Reference agreed by the Corporation and reports back to the Corporation on a regular basis.

There are links below for further information about the current members of the Corporation, the statutory Instrument & Articles and Standing Orders which detail the responsibilities of the Corporation, the Code of Conduct which Corporation adhere to, the governance structures including committee Terms of Reference, and Corporation and Committee meeting minutes.

The Corporation approves the College’s annual financial statements and the latest version of these can be found in the policies, report & statements section below.

The Corporation are required to have an external review of governance every three years. A review was carried out in 2023 and a summary of the review can be read here.
