Access To Higher Education
Case Study
“With my children grown up, I decided I wanted to do something new that involved people –possibly social work. Having been out of education for several years I knew that I needed to get back into the ‘study mode’ before going to university, so decided to enrol on the HE Access programme at Suffolk New College.
I definitely made the right decision. The course has increased my confidence and shown me that I can do it. I’ve just finished a research project and I’m so proud! The tutors are fantastic – really supportive. It’s been challenging – learning to learn again has been the hardest thing, but I’m now in the learning mind set and looking forward to going on to university.”

HE Access
(SOCIAL SCIENCES)
You may have good GCSE/O level qualifications or none at all, but if you are determined and well organised, and believe you have the potential for academic study at a higher level, an access course could be your pathway to a degree and a more rewarding future. Access courses are specifically designed to give students returning to education, and who are aiming at a degree or professional qualification, an alternative to a two-year A level course. You will be given a Personal Tutor who will help you throughout the course and assist you with applications to higher education. You will study with other supportive adults who will understand and share some of the issues you may have about returning to education, managing your time and so on.
