Over 5000 people lapped up the sunshine when they attended the Big Day Out, a free family fun day hosted by Suffolk New College’s Suffolk Rural campus this weekend.
This was the 21st year that this occasion has taken place.
Activities included facepainting, football, archery, equine displays and tree climbing.

In other areas of campus based in Otley, guests got to experience food demonstrations, an agricultural showcase, interactive construction games and they also had the chance to tour a newly revamped animal centre.
Charlotte Rossiter is the Events Supervisor for Suffolk New College, and she was delighted with how the Big Day Out went.
Charlotte said: “We had perfect weather – and it was a beautiful atmosphere filled with smiles and happiness. I’d say it was my favourite Big Day Out so far.
“A massive thanks to the community for coming along, our staff for supporting me and a big thanks also to all of the local businesses who took the opportunity to showcase what they do in front of thousands of people.”

One visitor was Hollie Sutherland from Woodbridge who came along with her two daughters.
Hollie said: “It was brilliant – there was so much to do with the children. It’s been awesome.”
Fiona and Daniel Garner came along with their family. Fiona said: “It’s been well organised. It shows some of the older kids what careers are out there.”
Daniel Garner said: “Every year I come here, and I walk away and think about another life in which I came to study here. It’s inspirational family friendly fun.”
Visitors aside, many stallholders attended representing the food and drink industries.
One of those businesses was Savannah Smoke from Stowmarket. Business owner Tevin Clarke said: “It brings out culture – it helps connect people in the area. I think the college is doing a very good job.”
A beer company called Jack Rabbit attended for the second year in a row. Sam Hodgkins from the company said: “It’s a good classic country show.”

Frances Fung from Kokorozashi also enjoyed the day. She said: “It’s a great day for families.”
Charities were also out in force. They included The Owl Sanctuary, Amy Holdstock is the Education Co-Ordinator for this organisation.
She said: “It (the Big Day Out) is so much more affordable than other local shows.”
Hundreds of students also took part – supporting the public as they had a look around the Suffolk Rural campus – an educational establishment that was first set up in 1970.

One of those learners was Harriet Bloomfield, 18, from Darsham. Harriet is on a level 3 equine management course at Suffolk Rural. She said: “(The experience) has given me new personal skills. It’s been glorious and sunny.”
