Suffolk New College – GCSE results – August 2025

News overview

Hundreds of Suffolk New College students of all ages are celebrating their GCSE results today.

In total, 486 learners received a grade 4 or above in English, maths and biology at College campuses based in Ipswich, Otley, Halesworth and Leiston.

This year, 271 people gained English GCSEs at grade 4 or above. (That’s 55 more people than last year).

211 achieved maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above. (That is 88 more people than last year).

And four adult learners achieved biology passes – all at grade four or above.

Successes included an adult learner called Daniel Abudu who passed GCSEs, allowing him to follow his dreams of becoming a nurse – and a youngster named Andrew managed to pass his GCSE maths at the fourth time of asking.

The majority of those involved in these results were youngsters taking resits and students on ESOL programmes. But quite a number of successes also included adult learners.

Alan Pease, the CEO and principal of the college proudly reflected on the day.

Mr Pease said: “We were delighted to support people across the board achieve successes in their GCSEs. The results were outstanding – and I am proud of each and every one of our students.”

Louisa Hubbard is the director of English and maths at Suffolk New College. Louisa said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the results and the news that we have helped 482 people gain positive outcomes in English and maths – and four learners who studied a GCSE in biology also gain grade 4 or above passes.  The majority of students did this in one year with us, having previously not managed to get the grades they needed at school.

“I am also particularly delighted with the overall improvement seen by those on maths programmes. Everyone has shown hard work, dedication and determination to get the grades they needed – and thanks also to all my staff for constantly going the extra mile in support of our learners.”

In between learners collecting their GCSE results, Suffolk New College hosted an enrolment event for future students today.

Around 1500 people attended this sign-up day with a difference.

During this occasion, current and former students showcase their talents through music, art, performance, cooking demos and beauty treatments to help keep everyone entertained whilst signing up to programmes.
