  • Entry Requirements

    • Be at least 19 years of age.
    • Learners will be required to complete a written assessment prior to enrolment.
    • There is a requirement for the student to either work or volunteer in a primary school, secondary school, 6th form or college for 16 hours per week to cover the skills element of the course.
    • Complete Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks via Employer.

    Should you require an Advanced Learner Loan this must be confirmed prior to enrolment.

    Course Overview

    This course is based at our Ipswich campus.

    This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of knowledge and skills through a range of units that include:

    • Children and young people’s development,
    • Safeguarding,
    • Schools and colleges as organisations,
    • English and maths skills,
    • Health and safety
    • Support children positive behaviour,
    • Develop professional relationships etc.

    It is suitable for learners working in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

    All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include:

    • Direct observation by a tutor / teacher / assessor within the workplace
    • Written assignments and professional discussion in line with the assessment of learning provided for each unit.
    • You will also be visited by your assessor at least once every 6 weeks in your setting.

    Next Steps

    Work in roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary special schools, or colleges. Progression to further study can include a Level 4 Advanced Practitioner course, or higher education.
