    2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and/or maths, or demonstrate the ability to work towards level 1 in English and maths in an assessment.

    Course Overview

    This course is based at our Ipswich campus.

    This study programme gives you a broad knowledge and understanding of general engineering techniques used within the engineering sector. Carrying out practical activities in a realistic workshop environment, you will learn a range of intermediate fitting, sheet-metal work and machine skills. Classroom-based theoretical units are delivered by highly qualified and experienced lecturers, who support you in learning to work safely and effectively, and to make efficient use of resources and materials. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

    All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

    Course Highlights

    The study programme is mainly practical-based and you will learn in our modern engineering workshop. You will develop your practical skills and interact with local employers, who will share their knowledge and experience with you. You will also attend various exhibitions, such as the Duxford Engineering Technology Skills Exhibition.

    The study programme will also develop your personal, social, and employability skills, which includes opportunities to work on community projects and to explore the various career pathways within the engineering industry.

    Next Steps

    On completion of the course, successful students will have a qualification allowing them to progress directly onto the Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.
