This qualification is an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfil including administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles, volunteers, and roles that work directly with children and young people in the learning environment.
The qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school or college setting, including young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs, or where English is an additional language.
Course structure
3 days per week on site at college for face-to-face delivery of lessons, including English and Maths (if re-taking).
2 days per week of placement.
Placement
Minimum of 2 days per week, with children in school-based settings from 5 years of age.
There will also be block-weeks of placement, which you will be informed of when starting the course.
Learners must uphold the policies, professional standards and reputation of the college by being punctual, respectful, reliable, have a strong attendance to placement, and abide by the policies and procedures held at the placement setting.
Assessment
You will be assessed through a range of tasks and assignments including written reports, presentations, group discussions, and practical skills carried out in placement as well as in our state-of-the-art Childcare and Early Years facilities.
*English and Maths are assessed through exams.
Progression
T-level in Childcare and Early Years (level 3),
Apprenticeship in Childcare & Early Years, or Teaching Assistant,
Employment in the sector as a Teaching Assistant
Progress onto Teaching Training courses once Level 3 has been achieved.
