This course is designed to inspire and motivate you to develop a sound understanding of the English Language by assessing your reading and writing skills. It will support you in developing the expertise that you need to communicate effectively, read, analyse and understand a variety of different texts (from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries) and explore different literary styles.
Once you have completed the course you will be equipped to use critical thinking skills to extract information from a range of texts (including one literary text such as a novel or play) and to write in a variety of contexts (both descriptively and creatively).
In addition, you will undertake a series of speaking and listening tasks designed to improve your communication skills in situations such as job interviews and individual presentations.
All students will be entered to sit two examinations in June: creative reading and writing and writers’ viewpoints and perspectives.
Additional Costs
No tuition fees are payable for students who do not already have a GCSE grade C (4) or above in English.
Your tutor will advise you which text you need to purchase at the beginning of your course.
