This qualification is designed to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people at an unsupervised level, in a diverse range of job roles, within early learning and childcare. Subjects covered include child development (birth to 7 years), observation, planning, health & safety, safeguarding, and the role of the practitioner (plus much more). Assessment of skills in the real working environment is facilitated by an assessor, alongside knowledge criteria being assessed by written assignments via an online distance learning delivery model.
Students can enrol on this course at any time during the academic year.
Opportunities to work in an unsupervised capacity as:
- Supervisor in day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery or reception classes in primary schools
- Children’s centre supervisor
- Registered childminders and nannies
Or progress onto the Level 4 Early Years Advanced Practitioner, or Level 5 Early Years Senior Practitioner.
