Who is this course for?
This course is for competent electricians who want to add solar PV and storage to their services. Learners should hold one of the qualifications listed below or other qualifications listed in EAS tables A4.7 and 4.8 routes 1, 2, 3 and BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification.
What are the Entry Requirements?
One of the following qualifications:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (2357)
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (5357)
- Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
- Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services – Electrical Installation (Building and Structures)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification.(2346)
- Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
- EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation
- ECS Gold Card (for domestic electrician), JIB Electrician (Not PAT tester only) or Approved Electrician Card
How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered at our Ipswich Campus in our state-of-the-art Netzero Skills Centre and includes practical training that covers:
- Planning and preparing for the installation of a solar photovoltaic system
- Undertaking pre-installation checks
- Installing solar photovoltaic system components
- Installing a solar photovoltaic d.c. circuit in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance, regulatory requirements and industry recognised procedures
- Inspecting and testing a new solar photovoltaic system installation
- Inspect and test the D.C circuit in accordance with the design specification, manufacturer’s requirements and the relevant regulatory requirements
- Completion of relevant inspection, testing and certification records
- Commissioning a new solar photovoltaic system installation
- Handing over a new solar photovoltaic system installation
- Obtaining acceptance by the end user of the system according to the industry-agreed handover procedures
- Undertaking the routine service and maintenance of a solar photovoltaic system installation
- Undertaking using safe systems of work, routine servicing of relevant system components
- Undertake fault diagnosis work on a solar photovoltaic system installations
- Undertaking fault rectification work on solar photovoltaic system installations
- Undertaking post-rectification tests in accordance with manufacturer’s guidance.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on your practical work as detailed above. There are also the following papers:
- Multi-choice question Paper 1: 1 1⁄2 hours 100% pass rate
- Multi-choice question Paper 2: 1 1⁄2hours 100% pass rate
- Short written answer Paper 3: 1 hour 100% pass rate
- Practical Assessment Job Sheet: 3 hours 100% pass rate
What qualification will I achieve?
On completion of the course, you will be awarded the BPEC Level 3 in Solar Photovoltaic Systems qualification.
