Suffolk New College is proud to have committed to becoming a College of Sanctuary, joining a national movement dedicated to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for people seeking sanctuary.
Our Commitment
Our work is guided by the three College of Sanctuary principals:
- Learn – building understanding of sanctuary, inclusion and belonging
- Embed – placing safety, respect and accessibility at the heart of everything we do
- Share – celebrating contributions from all members of our college community

Our Pledge
We commit to ensuring that we are a fully inclusive college, which provides a positive and valuable educational experience by enabling all learners to access education and gain the necessary language and communication skills to develop personally, progress on their chosen pathway and to actively participate in their local community. We will be a safe place for those seeking sanctuary.
We will do this through:
- Embedding inclusive, accessible and representative practice across teaching, learning and assessment
- Challenging discrimination, harassment and bullying in all forms
- Celebrating diversity, through visible, meaningful and representative activity
- Identifying and supporting learners who face disadvantage or multiple barriers
- Break down barriers to learning by actively reducing and eliminating achievement, attendance and progression gaps
- Promoting and implementing fair, transparent and inclusive employment practices
- Promoting respect, understanding and belonging through our RESO (Resilience Support Organisation) informed approaches
- Working collaboratively with employers, communities and partners to widen participation and improve outcomes
- Monitoring progress through data, feedback and transparent reporting, and taking action where inequalities are identified
