News overview

It’s all ‘go’ for a Suffolk New College who are backing a campaign to create a Monopoly board made up of Ipswich landmarks.

Launched last week by the companies Winning Moves UK and Hasbro outside the Corn Exchange in the centre of the Town, businesses and individuals have now been asked to put forward suitable nominations to become part of one of the most recognised board games in the world.

As part of this, students from the performing arts department gathered outside Suffolk New College to put their case forward.

And the college – that was included in the last Ipswich Monopoly game back in 2006 – is hopeful of success second time around.

Student – Carlos Batista is currently studying on a level three performing arts course and thinks the college should be in with a chance. The 21-year-old from Ipswich – who donned a makeshift Mr Monopoly outfit to help back the bid – said: “I think

Suffolk New College is a very important institution around Ipswich. Everyone knows the place – it is iconic.”

Imogen Thompson, 17, from Ipswich is on the same course as Carlos. Imogen said: “We are very diverse and it is an important place for teenagers to grow up and discover themselves. It would be so cool (to be on the new Monopoly board).”

Hannah Page took part in a promotional photo to support the college campaign. Hannah, 18, from Kesgrave said: “Suffolk New College deserves to be on the board as it is just great. It’s got everything, provides loads of opportunities so I think everyone should know about it. It deserves to be on the board and it would be a shame if it wasn’t.” Head of Marketing Craig Shimmon said: “We have many keen Monopoly players within our Suffolk New College ranks and I think the idea to bring back an

Ipswich version of the game after nearly 20 years is brilliant. We would be proud to be involved.”
