Riley Evans, 18, from Ipswich was one of the students involved. The site carpentry learner said: “All the money goes to charity. We raised £1,200 in 2024 and we are hoping to beat that this year.

Liam Airey, 17, from Ipswich is on a bench joinery course. He said: “I helped make some of the items and I’ve been selling them at the show. It’s good to do something nice for the community. Some of my family work for St Elizabeth Hospice so it makes me feel that in some way I am making their life a little bit easier.”

Elsewhere at the show, Suffolk New College and Suffolk Rural celebrated 55 years of farming. Equine students helped build showjumping courses. And Mark Richardson from the college sports centre won the mascot race for the second year running.
