Travel to Leiston Campus
Bus
School Buses are provided from various locations to Leiston under the Suffolk County Council (SCC) School Travel Policy. All students using SCC funded school travel will have to opt-in to the service each year by no later than the 31st May to ensure that the transport provision is in place by the start of the new academic year in September. If you apply after 31st May, there is no guarantee that your transport provision will be in place for the start of the new academic year.

Car
If you arrive by car please use Sat Nav: IP16 4BG and when entering the Alde Valley grounds follow the signs to “Suffolk New College – On The Coast” where there is parking directly outside our building.
Walk / Cycle
Our Leiston campus is very easy to walk to from any street in Leiston due to the good roadside footpaths and many public footpaths that lead toward the College.
Bicycle storage is provided close to the Hub for any students that wish to cycle to school. It is solely the responsibility of the student to appropriately store and secure their bicycles when being kept on the school site
Moped / Motorcycle
Student mopeds and motorcycles can be stored in the main car park area. It is solely the responsibility of the student to appropriately store and secure their moped/motorcycle while it is on the school site.
Bursary
From September 2026, the College bursary will cover cost for your method of travel, provided you fall under the household income threshold of £33,000. This applies to all campuses and includes: train travel, bus travel and mileage costs.
For example, if you are aged under 19, live in the Chantry area of Ipswich and attend the Ipswich campus for 3 days per week, travelling by bus, and your eligible household income is below £33,000, you will receive a monthly payment to cover the cost of a monthly bus pass, which can be purchased directly from the bus company.
Travelling by motorcycle or car is acceptable too. We calculate your mileage from your home to college and pay this at 20p per mile, multiplied by the number of days that you are timetabled to be in college. If you are travelling to Ipswich, we will pay your car parking too.
Unless you are travelling on one of the three dedicated bus routes or the complimentary shuttle bus to Suffolk Rural, then you will need to make your own arrangements of how you get to college. The College will contribute if your eligible household income is less than £33,000 and you apply for the bursary.
