Designers of gold medal winning garden at Suffolk Show say Chelsea Flower Show is up next

One of the designers of a garden that won gold at the Suffolk Show joked that ‘I guess next up could be Chelsea – that would be cool’.

The creation was made by Sarah Brunning (who said the above quote) with fellow staff and students based at the Suffolk New College Suffolk Rural campus.

The sustainable garden was made using an old skip, and learners from the inclusive learning department were involved throughout.

Sarah – an inclusive learning lecturer at the college herself – said: “Judges told us that we had won a gold award and I’m over the moon. The learners were chuffed. I guess next up could be Chelsea – that would be cool. And we would love to come back to Trinity Park next year and try again.”

Mark James, a learning support practitioner, and he worked on the woodwork side of the project. He said, “I’m retiring next week, so what a way to go out.”

The gold medal was the jewel on the crown of another successful show for the college.

Elsewhere farm staff won rosettes whilst showing sheep in livestock classes, student chefs gave cookery demos in the food tent, floristry learners won prizes for their designs and staff from a variety of programmes showcased their courses in a marquee housed in the food and farming zone.

Director of Animal & Equine and Suffolk Centre for Culinary Arts at Suffolk New College, Lynsey Wilson, said: “What an incredible two award-winning two days for all of us. Thanks to all staff and students for their support. The Suffolk Show is an incredible opportunity for us to showcase all of our fantastic courses, as well as the work of our students and the expertise of our staff. We can’t wait to come back next year.”
