Advanced Golf Greenkeeper Level 3 Standard

Attendance: All assessment and training is undertaken in the workplace with occasional visits to college

Entry requirements: Entry onto the Apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course suitability. You may be required to come in and undertake an interview or assessment. Entry onto the Apprenticeship is subject to 4 GCSEs including Maths and English 9-4/A-C. It also recommended the Apprentice achieve Level 1 ICT. Apprentices need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week and have a contract of employment.

  • Advanced Golf Greenkeeper Standard
  • Award in Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1)
  • Boom Sprayer (PA2) or Handheld Applicators (PA6)
  • English and Maths (if required) Level 2

End-point assessment: Delivered by Lantra

Progression: On completion of this Apprenticeship, an Advanced Golf Greenkeeper will have the opportunity to progress into more senior positions within the golf club facility or an option to progress by working in other sports facilities such as Ground Maintenance Operator/Technician, Irrigation, Spray or Machinery Technician. Progression onto Golf course manager standard.

Course Summary: Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the need of both the Apprentice and their employer.

The Advanced Golf Greenkeeper encompasses various job titles and technical specialisms. The apprenticeship is designed to provide the greenkeeper with the skills and knowledge to operate at an advanced level where supervisory and/or specialist technical and agronomic skills are required. Upon completion the advanced greenkeeper will have the necessary skills to supervise the greenkeeping team and the maintenance of the golf course, in the absence of the Head Greenkeeper/Golf Course Manager, and will assist in the planning, supervising and implementing the maintenance, care and overall appearance of a golf course in line with the employer’s requirements.
