COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 Testing

Dear student

Please can we remind you to complete your Covid home tests (lateral flow) twice per week. Home test kits can be collected from the Learning Curve at both Ipswich and Rural Campuses. On the Coast students can collect from Leiston/Halesworth staff members.

If you receive a positive result from a lateral flow home test kit, please send an email immediately to support@suffolk.ac.uk . You should also use the link below to book a confirmation PCR test via the NHS testing route. If you cannot email, then you can call the College between 8.30am to 5pm on 01473 382200 and clearly state you are phoning to report a student positive COVID result. Student Support can talk you through the next steps.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 you need to get a PCR test, via the NHS testing route, as soon as possible and self-isolate for 10 days. Further information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

The symptoms are:

  • a high temperature - this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

You will not be able to return to College before the 10 day self-isolation period unless you receive a negative PCR test result. Evidence of this will need to be emailed to CurriculumAdministrators@suffolk.ac.uk before you can end your isolation. If you attend College without providing this evidence, you will be referred to Student Support who will make arrangements for you to go home if you are unable to confirm the negative test result.

You also need to self-isolate if:

  • you have tested positive for COVID-19 (minimum of 10 days from onset of symptoms)
  • someone you live with has symptoms or tested positive (10 days from their test)
  • someone in your support bubble has symptoms or tested positive (10 days)
  • you've been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace (10 days)

We thank you in advance for your cooperation in following these processes.

Kind regards

Suffolk New College
