Framework  Overview

To achieve the Advanced Apprenticeship, you will need to complete the Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills.

To do this you will need to gain a minimum of 39 credits. At least 22 credits must be at Level 3 or above. The qualification is made up of three mandatory units and a number of optional units.

There is a good choice of optional units which include:

  • Using email
  • Using Mobile IT devices
  • Word Processing Software
  • Design Software
  • Multimedia Software
  • Optimise IT Systems Performance,
  • Setting up an IT System
  • IT Security for Users and Bespoke Software.

Next Steps

Part/full time work. All businesses have a need for IT User Specialists to support and develop the use of software applications that help to run the business. 

Following completion of your qualification you may choose to progress into a particular area of IT such as developing websites, building databases or giving technical support and analysis.


 Where an employer has less than 50 employees and is not liable to pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded.  For Apprentices who are aged 19 years or over at the start of their course, a one-off employer contribution fee is required.  (There is an incentive payment of £1,000 available for employers who are not apprenticeship Levy payers and who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice.  This incentive payment is payable as £500 after 3 months and £500 after 12 months).

Tuition Costs

There are no costs to the Apprentice aged between 16 and 23 to complete an Apprenticeship.

The training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded; for Apprentices that are aged 19 - 23 at the start of the course, a one-off training contribution fee is required from their employer (who may be eligible for a grant).

For Apprentices aged 24 and over and enrol upon an advanced (level 3) Apprenticeship, the employer will be charged a fee.
