Entry Requirements: A full Level 2 qualification in Professional Cookery or equivalent and a grade D or Level 1 qualification in English and Maths.

Start Date: At any point  Attendance: 30 hours of employment per week

Duration: Normally 18 months

Framework Overview

This programme is designed for learners in a minimum of 30 hours employment per week within the chef industry. You will be provided with a bespoke learning programme that meets the needs of you and your employer and is predominantly tailored to your workplace activities. Your employer will agree the suitable time you train at the College so that you can build knowledge and skills even further, and this combined with the support and skills building that you receive in the workplace from your employer, will enable you to be earning a wage while you become a competent professional chef. Skills within this framework include  maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure working environment; working effectively as part of a hospitality team; knife skills; food safety and a range of complex food preparation and cooking units relevant to your place of work.

Next Steps

You can progress on to an Advanced/Higher Apprenticeship, apply for university or higher education.This qualification can support you in a number of jobs in the hospitality industry including catering or restaurant manager and chef.

Where an employer has less than 50 employees and is not liable to pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded.  For Apprentices who are aged 19 years or over at the start of their course, a one-off employer contribution fee is required.  (There is an incentive payment of £1,000 available for employers who are not apprenticeship Levy payers and who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice.  This incentive payment is payable as £500 after 3 months and £500 after 12 months).
