Framework Overview

To achieve the level 3 Apprenticeship, you will need to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals.

To do this you will need to gain a minimum of 72 credits. At least 44 credits must be at Level 3 or above. The qualification is made up of three mandatory units and a number of optional units.

There is a good choice of optional units, including:

  • Technical Fault Diagnosis
  • Working with ICT Hardware and Equipment
  • Remote Support for Produces or Services
  • Security of ICT Systems
  • Software Installation and Upgrade
  • Testing of ICT Systems

Next Steps

Part/full time employment. All businesses have a need for IT User Specialists to support and develop the use of software applications that help to run the business.  Following completion of your qualification you may choose to progress into a particular area of IT such as developing websites, building databases or giving technical support and analysis.


Where an employer has less than 50 employees and is not liable to pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded.  For Apprentices who are aged 19 years or over at the start of their course, a one-off employer contribution fee is required.  (There is an incentive payment of £1,000 available for employers who are not apprenticeship Levy payers and who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice.  This incentive payment is payable as £500 after 3 months and £500 after 12 months).
