Entry Requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be in paid employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week in an electrical installation/maintenance environment
  • GCSE grade A-D in a communication subject, maths and either a science or technical-based subject.
  • Have satisfactorily completed a colour vision test.
  • Initial Skills assessment (completed at College)

Start Date: On-going  Attendance: Part-Time  Duration: Up to 48 months

Apprenticeships offer you the opportunity to earn while you learn, while you also have use of our fully equipped, modern workshops and purpose built inspection and test facilities. You will train in the workplace and gain practical skills as well as a nationally recognised qualification.

Framework Overview

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes which are designed around the need of both the Apprentice and their employer. The Apprentice is equipped with theoretical knowledge combined with practical hands-on experience which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Next Steps

Progress in their career with further training into job roles such as Technician, System Designer, Estimator, Project/Contracts Manager, Site/Workshop Supervisor/Manager, Chartered Engineer, Sales Engineer or Commercial Manager

Fees

Where an employer has less than 50 employees and is not liable to pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded.  For Apprentices who are aged 19 years or over at the start of their course, a one-off employer contribution fee is required.  (There is an incentive payment of £1,000 available for employers who are not apprenticeship Levy payers and who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice.  This incentive payment is payable as £500 after 3 months and £500 after 12 months)

Additional Costs

Trips and visits, safety boots and work trousers, tool kit, and the following textbooks IET Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (BS7671), On Site Guide, Optional reference books from Doughton M & Hooper J are recommended I.E. Principles of Design, Installation & Maintenance (Doughton M & Hooper J) and Organising & Managing the Work Environment (Doughton M & Hooper J)
