Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

Your Framework(FRA04113):

  • CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (QCF) (EYE)  
  • L2 ICT qualification (exemptions may apply)
  • L2 Award in Employee Rights and Responsibilities.
  • GCSE Maths (if not already achieved)

Entry Requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age and it is recommended that you have gained relevant work experience within your chosen area 
  • GCSE grade C in English Language on entry
  • GCSE grade D or above in Maths on entry
  • You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours* per week and have a valid Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service DBS check
  • All learners will be required to complete an initial assessment of their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills on entry

Start Date: On interview Attendance: Part-Time weekly sessions on a Tuesday Duration: 12-18 months

Framework Overview

You will study four themes which include: Health and well-being; Legislation, Frameworks and professional practice; Safeguarding; Equality and Diversity; Play and Development; Professional Development including reflecting on own practice. Learners are also required to complete two longitudinal studies on two separate children from different age ranges.

The course uses a range of assessment methods, including written tasks, professional discussions and observations. All assessments for the childcare qualification is assessed either though coursework in the classroom, or observations and professional discussions in the real work environment.

Age ranges:

Apprentices are expected to be placed in contracted employment and consideration must be given to ensure all learners are able to evidence practice with children across the following three age ranges:

For learners unable to complete all of the above age ranges in their main setting, it is a requirement that an alternative setting will need to identify how these hours can be captured. 

Next Steps:

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators or progress into Higher Education.  All newly employed staff must have achieved both Maths and English GCSE Grade C or above to be able to be counted in ratio.


Where an employer has less than 50 employees and is not liable to pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded.  For Apprentices who are aged 19 years or over at the start of their course, a one-off employer contribution fee is required.  (There is an incentive payment of £1,000 available for employers who are not apprenticeship Levy payers and who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice.  This incentive payment is payable as £500 after 3 months and £500 after 12 months).

Additional Costs

We recommend learners purchase at least one course text book to support this qualification, this will be advised during induction.
