Study Programme Overview
You will spend one morning in College, followed by functional skills for all Apprentices that have not already achieved ICT, maths or English at GCSE grade C or functional skills level 1 prior to enrolment. Apprentices are required to attend a minimum of 30 hours per week in a childcare setting. Subjects covered include Child Development (from birth to 19 years), Observation, Planning, Health & Safety, Safeguarding and the Role of the Practitioner (plus much more). You will also complete Employer Rights and Responsibilities as part of the framework. Assessment of skills in the real working environment is facilitated by an assessor, alongside knowledge units which are assessed by a tutor. The course uses a range of assessment methods, including written tasks, professional discussions and observations.
Working in a supervised capacity as a play assistant in nursery or pre-school setting. Learners may wish to progress to a suitable level 3 programme but MUST have achieved GCSE grade C in English and maths if progressing to an Early Years Educator qualification at level 3.
There are no costs to the Apprentice aged between 16 and 23 to complete an Apprenticeship.
The training for Apprentices that are aged between 16 and 18 is fully funded; for Apprentices that are aged 19 - 23 at the start of the course, a one-off training contribution fee is required from their employer (who may be eligible for grant).
For Apprentices aged 24 and over and enrol upon an advanced (level 3) Apprenticeship the employer will be charged a fee.
We recommend learners purchase at least one course text book to support this qualification, this will be advised during induction.
