    Course Overview

    This course is based at Suffolk New College - on the coast (Seaward Avenue, Leiston)

    An inspiring course with an appealing blend of theory and practical, exploring a multitude of fitness and sport pathways.

    The Level 2 Sport prepares students for progression onto any of our Level 3 pathways, and helps to provide a range of skills and knowledge for those looking to enter employment in areas such as Health and Fitness, the Leisure Industry, and Sports Coaching.

    On the Level 2 Sport, you will study exciting modules such as Practical Sport Performance, Leading Sports Activities, Lifestyle and Well-Being, The Mind and Sports Performance, and Running a Sports Event.

    In addition, there are two externally-moderated units which include Fitness for Sport and Exercise and Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Performance.

    Students are required to be in college at least 3 days per week and are supported to complete 50 hours of relevant work experience, as well as opportunities to take part in sport in the community. The programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations, and discussions.

    All students who have not achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English or maths will need to study these subjects alongside their chosen qualification.

    Course Highlights

    Students have the opportunity to experience both practical and theory lessons utilising the College’s fantastic facilities, and are taught by experienced and enthusiastic industry professionals. Students have the opportunity to plan, deliver, and coach sports events such as badminton, volleyball, football, and basketball, as well as explore and undertake fitness training at a local Gym. There are also visits to the Local Gymnastics Centre, Ipswich Town FC, and other leading Sport providers to learn practical skills in a new environment.

    Next Steps

    83% of our last year students progressed to further study, and 17% securing apprenticeships or employment. It is expected this will provide students with entry into the sports industry with the additional options of progressing onto our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport to further your education and training.

    Tuition Costs

    No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2020.

    Additional Costs

    There is a mandatory college sports kit to be purchased. Trips vary to meet the interests of student groups with information on costs available upon enrolment.
