Our in-year offer is aimed at 16-18 year old learners who have either not yet started their journey into Further Education or who have changed their minds about their chosen pathway.

Courses will start in January or February, finish in June 2022, and are free.

Animal Care (Level 2)

Starts: Tuesday 1st February / Campus: Rural (Otley)

Entry Criteria: 4 GCSES at grade 3 (D), including English, maths and science.

The ABC Level 2 Practical Animal Care Skills will provide a detailed introduction to animal care and husbandry combining practical-based training with sound theoretical knowledge.

Days of attendance will be a Tuesday and a Thursday

Applied Psychology (Level 3)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: Grade 4 or equivalent in English and or Maths, or a level 2 equivalent in a similar subject.

The course is designed to develop knowledge in the key areas of psychology and is a precursor for those wanting to progress onto our level 3 Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation or (for those who will be 19+ in September) our HE Access Social Science programme.

Art & Design (Level 1)

Starts: January 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: 2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and/or maths, or demonstrate the ability to work towards Level 1 in English and maths in an assessment.

This study programme is made up of a series of units that enables you to experiment in different ways. The study programme includes drawing, digital art & design, 3D, and 2D.

Catering & Hospitality (Level 1)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich or Halesworth

Entry Criteria: 2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and maths, or demonstrate the ability to work towards Level 1 in English and maths in an assessment.

This study programme includes a range of units assessed across the kitchen and restaurant side of hospitality which will involve working in industry-standard facilities.

Hair & Beauty (Level 1)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich or Halesworth

Entry Criteria: 2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and/or maths, or demonstrate the ability to work towards level 1 in English and maths in an assessment.

This study programme will enable you to develop skills in hair and beauty alongside English, maths, and work experience in local hair or beauty salons. You will additionally have weekly sessions to improve your employability skills and personal development while at college.

Printmaking (Level 2)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: 2 GCSE’s Grade 3 and above and a keen interest in Art and Photography.

This course will be ideal for those who wish to learn new skills in Printmaking and/or develop a portfolio for entry onto one of our established diplomas in September 2022. A digital design element will be included as part of the programme in addition to traditional techniques.

Photography (Level 2)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: 2 GCSE’s Grade 3 and above and a keen interest in Art and Photography.

This course is ideal for those who wish to learn new skills in Photography and/or develop a portfolio for entry onto one of our established diplomas in September 2022.

Moving Forward (Level 1 & 2)

Starts: January 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: All learners will be invited for an informal interview and to attend a taster session where they will be asked to complete a short task. A formal offer of a place on the Level 1 or 2 course will only be made after successful completion of this process.

This inclusive program of study has been designed to help learners who have not been in education for a while or who have not settled on their first choice of study programme.

This short course is designed to build confidence, resilience and develop key skills needed for further study at College or progression into employment. You will also study English and maths as part of this study program.

Moving On for ESOL Speakers (Level 1)

Starts: January 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: Initial assessment and course interview

This course is designed for young people with English as a second language moving on from high school into College. It will support you to prepare for progression onto a vocational course.

This is a full-time course and will improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. You will also find out about life in your local community and how to access services used in your daily life.

Mechanical Engineering (Level 2)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: 3 or 4 GCSE subjects at grade 3 ideally including English and Maths.

The course has been designed to give you an understanding of a wide range of engineering practices and allows you to develop a range of practical engineering skills, and safe and professional behaviours. If you are a person who enjoys learning by ‘doing’ and is more ‘hands on’ then this course is for you.

Alongside the practical lessons you will also study some underpinning theory to further develop your understanding of engineering processes, tools and equipment, the engineering environment, health and safety, engineering drawings etc.

Engineering (Level 3)

Starts: February 2022 / Campus: Ipswich

Entry Criteria: At least 5 GCSEs grades 9 - 4 including ‘5’ in Maths, ‘5’ Science and ‘5/4’ English

This course provides an attractive alternative to the traditional A Level for students who prefer to have more practical element in engineering. The fundamental philosophy of this course is that, you actively experience the engineering environment including electrical and electronics engineering.

BTEC L3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering is equivalent to a full A-Level. BTEC L3 National Extended Certificate consists of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.
