Units include Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety, Customer Service, Supporting Clients, Nutrition, Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health, Understanding the Sector, and Developing Self as part of the theory. Practical units are based around studying instructing Gym Based Exercise and delivering Circuit Training and/or Spin classes (on bikes).You should expect to be in College for a minimum of three full days a week, while also taking part in relevant work experience in a Sport setting. The programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations, and discussions.In addition, there are two one hour exams and three practical assessments, which must be successfully passed to achieve this qualification.
All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3, including English Language or successful completion of BTEC level 1 Sport & Public Services and level 1 Functional skills in English.
This study programme offers an extensive study of fitness and training. On completion of the programme you will be fully qualified to work as a gym instructor and be able to teach circuit training and spinning (on bikes) sessions.
You will have the opportunity to utilise the College’s fantastic facilities, as well as local health clubs as part of your journey. Educational trips include visiting a fitness convention, EXPO and local gymnastic
It is expected this will provide students with entry into the fitness industry with work as a gym or group exercise instructor; with the additional options of progressing onto our level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport to further your education and training

I want to go on to university to study sports science or physio, so this course was ideal. Last year was one of the best - I met lots of people with the same passion for sport as me.
College is different to school, there's a lot more freedom and I like that. The tutors are really good. They make sure you are on track and always on task.
