Students are required to be in college 4 days per week and complete modules including, Fitness Testing and Training, Practical Sport, Anatomy and Physiology, Injury in Sport, Planning and Leading Sports Activities, Exercise and Fitness Instruction, Planning and Running a Sports Event. There will be 50 hours of work placements in various sports settings as well as opportunities to take part in sport in the community. The programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations and discussions.
All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or maths or both will need to study an English or/and maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification.

4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3, including English Language or successful completion of BTEC level 1 Sport and Public Service and level 1 Functional skills in English (or their equivalent).
Students will have the opportunity to experience both practical and theory lessons utilizing the College’s fantastic facilities and taught by experienced and enthusiastic industry professionals. In recent years, students have had the opportunity to plan, deliver and coach sports events such as badminton, volleyball, football, basketball, fitness training at a local Gym.There are also visits to the Local Gymnastics Centre to learn practical skills in a new environment.
83% of students progressed to further study, and 17% securing apprenticeships or employment. It is expected this will provide students with entry into the sports industry with the additional options of progressing onto our level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport to further your education and training
No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017.

The course was really interesting and we were learning right from the start in a challenging environment. The practical sessions were always really good and we got the opportunity to develop our fitness, sporting skills and leadership skills, I’m looking forward to starting the Level 3 next year.
