    2 GCSEs at grade 1 including English and/or maths, or demonstrate the ability to work towards Level 1 in English and maths in an assessment.

    Course Overview

    The L1 Diploma Games Art & Design is designed to provide a broad, general experience in creating designs using software on a computer and by hand that can be turned into a moving image. Students who are intrigued and motivated by creating artwork and then manipulating it or with opportunities to explore, develop and test their creativity will enjoy this course. You will look at the history of designers, artists and makers to inspire you to make your own ideas. You will experiment using by learning and different skills to make and design outcomes. These skills include digital art and design using Adobe Creative Suite as well as some specialist 3D modelling software, animation, painting, printing, photograph and film. By learning a broad range of skills opens up the opportunity to progress to a wide range of courses offered at SNC on the Coast (Leiston) and at the Ipswich campus. You may also be given opportunities to use these new skills in work experience and community projects.

    Course Highlights

    Whatever your passion is in the visual creative arts the course offers you opportunities to learn highly practical approach to many aspects of creative production that will include:

    • Computer program and software skills

    • Traditional design techniques

    • Photography and film editing

    • Concept art and presentations

    You will also have a personal tutor who teaches on the course and will support you throughout your time at Suffolk New College on the Coast.

    Next Steps

    The course has been designed to help you progress onto the relevant Level 2 courses such as IT, E-Sports (new for 21/22 so subject to approval), or Creative Media Production (Ipswich Campus) or Games Design or Art (Leiston or Ipswich Campus). You will also be given tailored advice and guidance from your course tutor about your next steps.

    Tuition Costs

    No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2021.

    Additional Costs

    There is a £40 Trips and Materials payment to be made, to cover trips to art exhibitions and/or games conventions that will be supported by visits from guest speakers and games industry professionals (delivered at Ipswich Campus transport provided)
